Training provides formal instruction for members of TBKD and guests. New students at all levels and all disciplines are always welcomed and encouraged to train for a session or more prior to becoming members. Every participant must complete a registration and waiver form prior to starting the first session.
We have small classes, and students frequently receive individualized instruction. Because of this format, if you are a new student interested in attending one of the classes, you must notify the instructors at least a day in advance.
Classes begin with a formal entry to the dojo and initial warmup excercises. Content of each class is at the discretion of the instructor but is quite fluid with emphasis changing as the students respond. Training sessions vary in content each time encompassing aerobic sessions stressing physical conditioning, technical sessions stressing the details of particular kata, and controlled sparring putting into practice blocking, striking, throwing, and locking techniques, proper stances, body position and flow between positions.
Classes are structured to accommodate all levels and training abilities. Students currently range in age from eight years old and up. Mid- to upper-rank students are often called upon to lead in execution of kata, of "ooya dosa" (combat drills), and are expected to be ready at any time to demonstrate individual kata or to participate in two-person drills.
Other training dates, times, and places can be made by appointment. We'll try very hard to make sure you get the training you want.
